The project “Sustainable Water Supply in Leskovets Village” was implemented by Berkovitsa Municipality in cooperation with the local water utility operator. The initiative was funded through the national grant program “Kapka po Kapka,” with a total project budget of BGN 30,200.

ThingsLog was selected as the technology provider responsible for the design and deployment of an IoT-based monitoring and automation system for the village’s water supply infrastructure.

Current state – No water, no sustainability

Leskovets is a small rural settlement within Berkovitsa Municipality that has experienced long-standing challenges related to water supply reliability. The existing system was characterized by insufficient flow rates, low pressure, and seasonal water shortages, particularly during the summer months.

Water supply operations relied on manual control of pumping equipment, requiring frequent on-site intervention. This approach resulted in inefficiencies, delayed response times, and increased dependency on human resources. The municipality identified the need for a sustainable and automated solution capable of ensuring continuous water supply while improving operational efficiency.

System Integration and Deployment

The solution was integrated into the existing water infrastructure of Leskovets village. As part of the project, outdated pumping equipment was replaced, and the automated control logic was configured to optimize pump operation, prevent dry-running conditions, and ensure stable water delivery.

All operational parameters and system data are accessible remotely through the Intelligent Water Management & Monitoring platform, enabling operators to monitor performance in real time and respond promptly to alarms or abnormal conditions.

Results and Impact

Following implementation, the project achieved the following results:

  • Continuous and reliable water supply for village residents
  • Elimination of manual pump start and stop operations
  • Reduced operational workload and reliance on human intervention
  • Improved system reliability and prevention of critical failures
  • Enhanced visibility and control over water infrastructure assets

The project demonstrates how IoT-enabled automation can significantly improve water supply management in small and resource-constrained communities.

Value for Municipalities and Utilities

The implemented solution is scalable and suitable for a wide range of applications, including:

  • Municipal water supply systems
  • Water and wastewater utility operators
  • Infrastructure projects funded by national or European programs
  • Small and medium-sized settlements seeking cost-effective modernization

The ThingsLog solution provides transparency, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability for critical infrastructure.
